Burnie to Smithton Mini Trail

Two days of dramatic coastlines, down to earth characters and cracking good flavours

Wander the quieter edge of the Tasting Trail with a laid-back weekend of fresh local flavours and salty sea air. From small-batch spirits and artisan-made cheese to oysters, honey and slow drives through rainforests, lush green farming country and dramatic coastlines, this loop is all about taking your time. Follow your tastebuds and see what’s tucked away at the far end of the map, and while your here – check out the Tarkine Drive!

Infuse Coffee Roasters
Need the caffeine hit? Roll into Burnie for a strong local coffee brew, roasted just metres from where you drink it. Simple, fresh and very local.☕️

Communion Brewing Co.
A relaxed brewery in a converted church pouring small-batch beers with a grazing-friendly menu. Perfect lunchtime pit stop. 🍻

Alchymia Distillery
Head west to Wynyard, then turn off to Table Cape. In a peaceful, rustic tasting room, Alchymia handcrafts gin and whisky and serves flights in an intimate setting just 7 km from Wynyard.

Lanigan’s Vineyard
Stop at the Rocky Cape National Park door step for a cheeky wine and lunch.  Breathtaking views over the bay to The Stanley Nut…picturesque!

Hursey Seafoods
Refuel with freshly caught Southern Rock Lobster (or ‘cray’ as the locals call them), overlooking the wharf. Choose the upstairs dining room for a sit-down feast or grab takeaway from the fish shop below.

Stanley overnight
Settle into one of Tasmania’s prettiest historic towns. Cosy stays, sea air and a sunset stroll set you up for day two. Great options include Stanley Accomodation Rosa’s Villa or a Borradale Stanley – here history meets luxury on a beef property in Stanley.

Blue Hills Honey
Head inland to Mawbanna where the Charles family has tended bees for generations. Taste award-winning leatherwood and browse a shop stacked with bee-loving goodies.

Duck River Meadows Robotic Dairy & La Cántara Artisan Cheeses
In Smithton, watch cows milked by robots, learn the paddock-to-platter story and sample Venezuelan and European-style cheeses made on site from 100% Tasmanian milk. 🧀

Tarkine Fresh Oysters
Finish on the estuary with some of the cleanest, sweetest oysters around. Settle in for a tray with a Tasmanian wine or beer, and don’t forget to pre book a behind-the-scenes tour if you’re keen to learn more.
